SEO vs. SXO vs. OSO

If you're currently diving into the world of digital marketing, you're probably wondering what in the world is going on. With the rise of new AI features, ranking on search engines is only going to become more confusing and possibly difficult.

To get more specific, if you're in the world of SEO, you've probably run across acronyms like OSO and SXO! But what are these crazy new trends we're seeing and how do they affect our websites? Do we need to be adopting different practices and changing the way we run our websites? Simply, no... But also, yes.

Honestly, it depends on how you're currently running your website and blog. Let's break it down.

SXO and OSO are newer terms. What do they mean?

SXO (Search Experience Optimization)

SXO, or Search Experience Optimization, is like the love child of SEO and UX. This is where specialists are putting a higher priority on the actual experience your user is having on your website. They are prioritizing this experience in order to retain people who visit your site, convert them into sales and get them to come back. The key elements of SXO include things like user intent, engagement metrics, conversion rate optimization (CRO) and personalization.

OSO (On Site Optimization)

OSO, or On Site Optimization, is where the priority is put optimizing the elements within your own website to improve user experience and performance. Key elements of OSO include things like content quality, UX (user experience), site speed, and internal linking.

Can't Forget SEO (Search Engine Optimization)

And, just in case we need a fresh look at SEO... or Search Engine Optimization. It focuses on improving your ranking on search engines by prioritizing keywords (and keyphrases), on-page SEO, off-page SEO, and technical SEO. There's a ton that kind of pillars under those topics, but we'll leave it short and sweet for now.

What Do These New Trends Mean For Me?

What these new trends mean for you can vary based upon many factors. These factors could include things like how much time you spend on building your site every month, who you currently have performing SEO on it (if you even have it - but if you don't you should totally message us), and if you are regularly adding content.

Now, when I say regularly adding content, I don't mean just writing up a paragraph and slapping it on your site. I mean you really need to dive deep into your research about whatever topic it is and get to know it. Understand what people want from it. Figure out why people would choose you to come to in order to learn about it. And of course, for the love of SEO, please do your keyword research. After you do those little things, you should be able to write up a great piece of high quality content that is worthy of being posted and hopefully get some numbers to your site from it!

The main thing about these new trends, is they are focusing more on quality content and how great of an experience your user has on your site. This looks different for every business, so your job (or ours if you let us) is to make sure we get you on track with those trends.

Do I Need OSO and SXO with My SEO?

Technically SEO, OSO and SXO go hand in hand if you do it the right way. They're not supposed to be stand alone strategies, but more so combined into one beautiful cake. Each piece is just as important as the other.

Think about it like this...

  • SEO attracts visitors to your site.

  • OSO makes sure your site is optimized for performance and usability.

  • SXO ensures your visitors have a great experience and are more likely to convert.

Just think of these three bears like the three strategies. SEO is the big guy in the middle, your strong leader. OSO is the teddy in white, ready to help you. And SXO is that tough teddy in brown armor ready to fight off all that awful code and get your users enjoying their time on your site. All one big team.

So there you have it. SEO, OSO and SXO all here to make things a little harder (and a lot better) for all of us here in the digital world. These are all super important to create a successful online presence. MB Design has already been implementing these on their clients sites and seen some great results. Let's see how we can get you on with these new SEO trends today!
